Could Lebron James be the league's MVP?
At age 21, Lebron James could very well be the NBA's MVP this season.
He is currently averaging just over 30 points and 6 rebounds per game,
and has lead the Cavaliers as one of the elite teams in the Eastern
Conference. The Cavaliers won just 35 games in Lebron's rookie season
and 42 wins in his second year. In December alone, Lebron James has
scored more than 30 points in 10 out of 13 games. In the last 30 years,
Michael Jordan is the only other NBA player in his third year averaged
more than 30 points per game. Lebron James also currently leads all
forwards for the 2006 NBA All-Star game in Houston. Will this #23 surpass
the great #23 of the 1990's? Only time will tell.

LeBron
James named 2003-04 Rookie of the Year
LeBron James proved the world that he could live up to the unprecedented
hype and turn the Cleveland Cavalier's organization in the right direction.
In return, LeBron was awarded the 2004 Rookie of the Year award. "I
knew I would make an impact this year," said James, "And I guess
I did." LeBron received 78 of a possible 118 first-place votes. "He
proved to all of us that he is up for a challenge. He exceeded all of
our expectations and just kept raising the bar," Cavaliers owner
Gordon Gund said. No player has ever entered the league with as much hype
as James had to endure. "They try to take away your manhood in this
league, and they couldn't get mine," said James, who averaged 20.9
points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists, joining Oscar Robertson and Michael
Jordan as the only NBA rookies to average at least 20-5-5. LeBron James
also became the youngest player in NBA history to score 40 or more points
when he recorded 41 on March 27 vs. New Jersey. |
